Your Options
We use our professional expertise and knowledge of the local health care and assisted living facilities to make recommendations to you or your loved one. You are not just a zip code or an open bed. We use the information from meeting you and discussing your care to find a place that can provide your care and meet as many of the other parameters as possible. We know the owners, staff and many of the other residents so we can find you a place where you will be comfortable and fit in. Below are the definitions of the kinds of facilities we may be recommending to you.
Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE)
RCFE is the official licensing category for those facilities that fall between being at home and needing a medical facility or a skilled Nursing Facility. Most of the facilities we work with are licensed as RCFE’s. RCFE’s come in many forms and may have special expertise in dementia or hospice care. This category includes small homes, as well as larger residential care facilities and Assisted Living Communities. The physical plant and the staff must be approved by the State.
Board and Care Homes
Board and Care homes are single family residences that have been converted to care homes. They usually care for 4–8 residents. Close supervision is provided.
Larger Residential Care Facilities
Facilities can be any size but usually those that are not a single family home style are known as residential care facilities.
Assisted Living Communities
In Assisted Living Communities, residents have their own apartments but the care is coordinated by the facility. Residents eat in a central dining room. Amenities usually include transportation and a wide range of activities.
Independent Living/ Retirement Communities
Independent Living and Retirement Communities are not licenced as they are not providing individual care. They may provide meals, housekeeping services, activities and transportation but not personal care.
Skilled Nursing Facilities
Skilled Nursing Facilities or SNF’s are medical facilities licenced to provide specific medical care such as wound care, rehabilitation, IVs, etc. These are licenced separately from RCFE.
Dementia Facilities
Facilities that have been set up to specifically address the challenges of dementia and cognitive loss.
Multi–level Facilities
Some facilities have more than one level of care available with in the same facility. Residents can move to other levels of care with in the same building or facility as their needs change.
